You Can Lead a Horse to Water AND Help Them Drink!

How many times, feeling sure your horse needs water, have you offered up that bucket and had your presumably thirsty horse refuse to drink it? If you have been around horses very much, the answer is often! It seems that horses, especially in an unfamiliar environment like show grounds or when hauling long distances, are reluctant to drink. The results can be discouraging and sometimes have dire consequences. Adding plain electrolytes to water, particularly when horses are working in heat, is a great idea. But, of course, that old adage still applies: You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make them drink.

Enter a product we found last year called Gallagher’s Water. The Tack and Habit Shoppe is proud to be a distributor of this product that, in our own experience, gets results. Adding an envelope of this powdered product to 2 gallons of water and stirring until completely dissolved is all you need do.

Some horses take to it immediately, and others may take a few tries before drinking. But without question, I have seen my granddaughter’s Hanoverian not allow you to take the bucket away if there is any Gallagher’s Water still in it!

While not every horse will attack that bucket with gusto, most seem to enjoy the alfalfa-flavored, electrolyte-fortified, drink (contents are a little bit of sugar, alfalfa, salt and electrolytes). By the way, Gallagher, the horse who inspired this product, is sugar-intolerant, so the creators took special care to make this product so that he could enjoy it every day without fear of harming his health.

Don’t wait for a situation where you are desperate to get your horse to drink.  Get your horse used to this product, using it periodically even as a treat, so that when you need it, your horse will eagerly consume the water you know they need. Try it now!

No worries! We packed Gallagher's Water!
