The inner shell is made of variable-density polystyrene for better impact energy dissipation.

Samshield's liner, purchased separately, is detachable, washable and the utmost in comfort and added safety.  It is a good idea to have at least two liners, especially when riding in a hot climate or when exercising heavily.
